Red wine… Who doesn’t enjoy a glass (or two) of red wine?
Red wine has been studied extensively over many years with impressive findings suggesting it may promote a longer lifespan, protect against certain cancers, improve mental health, and provide benefits to the heart.
Because we enjoy red wine, its company and the history behind it, we decided to produce our very own, and exclusive to our guests, red wine.
Our history starts from the great grandparents of Chrysanthou family who used to own vineyards in Panayia village in Pafos, next to the monastery of Panayia Chrysoroyiatisa. Panayia is a mountainous picturesque village in Cyprus, located at an altitude of 900 m in the Paphos mountain range. This area is the highest area in Pafos and one of the highest areas in Cyprus where grapes can be cultivated.
Grapes from this area get matured at least a month later than grapes from other areas, due to the high altitude, allowing the grapes to absorb more light and as a result produce a high quality wine.
The new Chrysanthou generation has followed the family roots up to the village of Panayia and bought the old vineyards. After a lot of effort and hard work we proudly present to our guests at Miliou Holiday Villas our own red wine.
It goes by the name of Yerambelos, which translates to old vineyeard in English. It is made of a mixture of old local grape varieties including mavro, maratheutiko and yiannoui.
We also offer Zinania, which is very similar to the Greek Tsipouro. Zivania is a traditional alcoholic beverage, which has been produced for centuries in Cyprus by distillation, and has played an important role in the everyday life of Cypriots. Zivania is a distillate produced only from local grapes.
